Около семисот километров отделяло Штелле от небольшого городка Оберфлокенбах (Oberflockenbach), расположенного высоко в горах. Достойной компенсацией за столь долгий переезд стало наше новое место проживания — отель с романтическим названием «Роза». Мальчики получили ключи от двух-трёхместных номеров, но лишь только переступив порог своих комнат, каждый по-настоящему понял, в какую сказку он попал. Владельцы отеля — господин и госпожа Шмидт. Знакомство с ними состоялось летом этого года совершенно случайно. Услышав, что хор мальчиков часто гастролирует по Германии, они любезно предложили свою помощь в организации проживания и питания детей. Уважаемые наши читатели! Позвольте на последнем слове заострить ваше особое внимание. Каждый из вас видел фильм «Иван Васильевич меняет профессию» и наверняка помнит сцену пира в царских палатах. Нечто подобное пережили сегодня и мы. Блюда и яства подносили бесконечно, столы напоминали волшебную скатерть-самобранку, которая ни на один миг не опустошалась: чай с кексами, пирожными и сладостями плавно перешёл в ужин, на котором одно горячее блюдо сменяло два других, на смену одному гарниру незамедлительно подавался другой и это, не говоря о различных соусах и приправах. Напитки лились неиссякаемой рекой. Уже было разгорячившееся от еды тело тут же остужало разнообразных форм и оттенков мороженое, пикантно подаваемое на больших тарелках. На смену мороженому спешили наливные фрукты, а за ними — рождественские подарки. Трудно поверить в то, что эта роскошь и изобилие были предоставлены хору абсолютно бесплатно. Единственным желанием супругов Шмидт было услышать ангельское пение наших мальчиков. Петь попросили совсем не много, минут пятнадцать. Но обстановка в гостиной была столь праздничной, а настроение у всех столь прекрасным, что широкая русская душа не смогла уместиться в эти жёсткие рамки. Пели почти час. Благодарная публика, состоящая преимущественно из жителей этого городка, готова была слушать и рукоплескать бесконечно. После концерта пиршество продолжилось, и Вадим Александрович почти два часа развлекал немецкую публику фортепианными импровизациями. Вскоре к нему присоединились и мальчики. Зазвучали «Крылатые качели», «Песни бременских музыкантов». Под самый вечер, уже объединённая общим праздником немецкая публика пела вмести с нами: «Мы — великая Россия, неделимая страна!
