Сегодня утром, по пути в город Бюль мы проводили на авиарейс в Санкт-Петербург двух ведущих басов — Андрея Зайца и Мишу Семёнова, так как в высших учебных заведениях, где они проходят обучение, начинается зимняя сессия. Наибольшее огорчение их отъезд вызвал у детей, которые успели за эти три недели к ним привязаться. И Миша, и Андрей — воспитанники нашего хора. В детстве они на себе испытали все трудности гастролей, прошли настоящую школу закалки и выносливости, и потому их помощь в работе с маленькими детьми была для нас большим подспорьем. Едва успев отогреться в Бюле, мы незамедлительно выехали во Францию. До города Альткирхе почти 200 километров. Чтобы скрасить время в пути, Вадим Александрович провёл с детьми урок французского языка. Каждый мальчик должен был запомнить хотя бы по одному слову из предложенного руководителем арсенала: кома сава, шерше ля фамм, уи, мерси боку, жё ма пель, парле ву франсе, шпрехен зи дойч. Дети с большим энтузиазмом принялись пополнять свой словарный запас. Не удивимся, если по приезду в Санкт-Петербург многие значительно улучшат свои оценки по английскому. А тем временем снега и метели шли за нами почти по пятам. Чуть было не опоздали на концерт. Франция встретила украшенными яркими улицами и мохнатым-мохнатым снегопадом. Перед входом в церковь Нотр Дам разворачивалось настоящее рождественское действо: по небу, под звуки саксофона, летало огромное надувное приведение, деревья стояли в необычных гирляндах, а падающий снег переливался в ярко-красочных лучах специальной подсветки. Концерт всё-таки пришлось задержать на пятнадцать минут. Впрочем, для Франции — это нормально. Пели без распевки и без репетиции, что, после после двух концертов в Кайзер-доме, оказалось совсем не сложно. Французская публика значительно эмоциональнее и свободнее немецкой. Особенно это ощущалось во время исполнения народных песен. Привыкший к немецким переводам хор с интересом слушал французский язык, пытаясь поймать в нём хотя бы одно из выученных в автобусе слов. Французы, в свою очередь, пытались узнать родную речь во время нашего исполнения произведений на французском. После концерта со словами благодарности к нам подошёл почтенный гражданин, который своей необычной внешностью, манерами и изысканностью речи сразу же привлёк внимание всего хора. Это был человек из другого столетия, причём даже не двадцатого, а девятнадцатого. Из его рассказа мы узнали, что ему девяносто лет, а его отец был импресарио самого Шаляпина.
